Plugin Updating
Keeping WPGlobalCart up to date is simple and works the same way as WordPress repository plugins — either automatically (recommended) or manually.
Automatic updates
Once you enter and save your license key inside the plugin interface, automatic updates become available. When a new version is released, WordPress will surface that update in the standard places: Plugins → Installed Plugins and Dashboard → Updates. From there you can update WPGlobalCart with the same one-click process you use for other plugins from the official repository. The update will download and replace plugin files while WordPress runs its normal activation routines.
Manual updates
If you prefer to update manually, download the latest WPGlobalCart package from the website. In your site admin go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP file, then click Install Now. WordPress will detect the existing installation and overwrite the plugin files with the new package. After installation, click Activate (if prompted) and confirm everything looks correct.
What happens to settings and data
All previous settings and data are preserved during both automatic and manual updates — nothing is lost as long as the plugin follows WordPress standards (options and stored data remain in the database). That means your configuration, carts, and customer-related records remain intact after the update.
Quick tips
Before updating, it’s good practice to read the changelog and — if possible — test the update on a staging site. Optionally, take a quick backup of files and database so you can restore if anything unexpected occurs.
Important note:
Starting with version 5.1.6 the plugin folder/name was changed from woo-global-cart to global-cart. After updating, locate and activate the new “Global Cart for WooCommerce” entry in Plugins, then remove the old woo-global-cart item. This rename does not affect your configuration or data — all previous settings and stored data will be preserved and nothing will be lost.
Updating WPGlobalCart is designed to be straightforward so you can stay secure and take advantage of new features without disruption.
